Dr. Sunil Kakarla, an experienced and compassionate veterinarian in Cary, NC, grew up in India. After graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine in India, he practiced as a companion animal veterinarian for five years in a metropolitan city in India. He moved to the United States in 2005 with a passion for practicing high-quality veterinary medicine in an advanced setting. During that process, he pursued his MS and Ph.D. in a renowned lab at Marshall University in West Virginia.

As a graduate student, Dr. Kakarla performed cutting-edge research and had several high impact publications to his credit. While pursuing graduate studies, he simultaneously completed the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE) in 2010.
Soon after this accomplishment, he began volunteering at several local animal hospitals. He completed his clinical experience program and obtained his license to practice in the US the same year.

In 2011, after graduating with a doctoral degree, he joined a small animal practice in Durham/RTP where he established a huge clientele and treated about 6000 to 7000 pets per year.

With his continued passion to provide the best quality veterinary care, he joined the state-of-the-art Walnut Street Animal Hospital in June 2016. As a veterinarian in the RTP area of NC, he strongly believes in quality care for pets and in being available to his patients when needed.

Sunil Kakarla is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and has special interests in dermatology and soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, as well as emergency medicine. Dr. Kakarla is married and has a son and a daughter. He enjoys spending quality time with his family, including his 1-year-old Golden-Doodle, Brownie, and a 4-year-old Poodle, Milky. He enjoys serving his community by actively helping rescue groups and shelter pets, and in his free time, he plays volleyball.

Dr. Sri graduated from the College of Veterinary Sciences in Tirupati, India, in 1998. Over the past 25 years, he has built a distinguished career, combining public service with private practice in the veterinary field. His extensive experience includes serving in various governmental roles in India, where he worked on public health initiatives and animal welfare programs. Alongside these roles, Dr. Sri also managed his own successful pet clinic, where he provided comprehensive care to companion animals, ensuring their health and well-being.

Dr. Sri has been deeply committed to community service through his involvement with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). He has made significant contributions to the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program, a crucial initiative aimed at controlling the population of stray dogs and reducing the spread of zoonotic diseases such as rabies. His efforts in rabies control have been particularly impactful, helping to curb the incidence of this deadly disease in stray dog populations, thus enhancing public health and safety.

Driven by a passion for advancing veterinary care, Dr. Sri pursued the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) certification, a rigorous program administered by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). This certification reflects his commitment to achieving the highest standards in veterinary practice and his dedication to providing advanced care for companion animals. This desire to work in a more advanced clinical setting led him to join us, where he continues to apply his skills and knowledge in a dynamic, modern veterinary practice.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Sri values quality time with his family. He enjoys spending time with his spouse, Jyotsna, and their only child, Harsha. He balances his professional commitments with his personal life, ensuring that he remains connected

Sarah is an NC State graduate with double majors in Animal Science and Applied Nutrition. She has lived with animals her entire life and has always had a special place in her heart for them. She has been with the company since 2019, and she loves her job. Not only does she have the opportunity to meet new people and pets on a daily basis, but she also gets to help those fur babies stay happy and healthy with their families. Her favorite things to do outside of work include spending time with her furry kiddos; two dogs named Ochi and Denali, and two cats named Juniper and George. When she’s not at work, you can find her hiking with her dog, or taking part in any other activities in which she can include them.

Hello! My name is Caitlin, and I have been with Capital Blvd Animal Hospital & Pet Inn since 2017. I started out as a receptionist and after being with this practice for a year, I was promoted to Manager and transferred to our sister location, Capital Boulevard Animal Hospital. I absolutely loved the experience of opening a new clinic and getting acquainted with all of the rescues.

I am excited to start my new role as Client Coordinator with the company. I have always loved working with clients and making sure the owner and furbaby have a positive experience. In my free time, I am with my 2 human kiddos as well as my own furbabies.

Hi! I’m Perla, the Lead Veterinary Assistant. My love for veterinary medicine started with my own pets—my two dogs and my cat. They’re a big part of what inspired me to get into this field and made me want to help other pets and their families. I really enjoy working with all kinds of pets and getting to know their different personalities. One of my favorite parts of being a Lead Veterinary Assistant is being able to share what I’ve learned with my team and help them grow. At the same time, I’m always learning something new myself, and I love that veterinary medicine gives me the opportunity to keep growing and expanding my knowledge. I’m grateful to be part of a field where I can do what I love while making a difference in the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

I like getting to know the unique personalities of the pets that walk through our doors is my absolute favorite part of working at Capital Blvd Animal Hospital. My focus is on building trust—whether that means offering a quiet, gentle hand to a shy cat or matching the happy wiggles of an excited puppy. I treat every animal like a member of my own family, and I’m dedicated to making sure both you and your pet always feel comfortable, supported, and cared for.

Kennedy is a graduate of NCSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science coming from Wisconsin and plans to go to veterinary school! She has been a veterinary assistant for 6 years and hopes to one day run a mixed practice clinic seeing both pets and farm animals. Kennady is especially interested in animal behavior and assisting in positive vet experiences. If you don’t see her in the hospital, she’s likely with family or with her fella and 3 mutts of her own, named Shaggy, Lloyd and Lottie!

Casey has been working in the veterinary field for several years and has developed a deep passion for caring for animals and being part of their medical care. She is currently in school, working toward her goal of attending veterinary school and pursuing a lifelong career as a veterinarian. Outside of work and school, Casey loves spending time with her two dogs and two cats, who are a huge part of her life.

I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember, and that love has grown into a passion for caring for them and helping them live happy, healthy lives. I’m working toward my dream of becoming a veterinarian and hope to bring compassion, patience, and genuine care to every animal I work with. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference in the lives of both pets and
their families.

Hello I am Natasha Mckinnon born and raised in Ohio. I began my veterinary assistant career in Ohio and continued my journey all the way to Raleigh, NC. I made a few career stops along the way too. After 4 years serving my country as an active duty U.S Soldier. Next, I made my way to Raleigh where I attended NC State CALS as an Animal Science undergrad. Go Wolf Pack! Graduated NC State in December 2015. I still carry around with me the respect and high standards of the veterinary field.
